Paradigms in Autism...

A little about me:
I am a 2e-ASD1 father of ten. Four of my children are on the Autism spectrum: a 2e-ASD1 son (1998), an ASD1 daughter (1991), an ASD2 son (1987) and an ASD3 daughter (1994).

Both of my ASD1s are married and have their own children.
My ASD2 son lives in a supervised apartment.
And I am the guardian of my ASD3 daughter.

There are three major paradigms about the Autism spectrum:
  1. that the whole spectrum is an expression of neuropathology;
  2. that the whole spectrum is a healthy expression of neuro-diversity and
  3. that ASD1 is a healthy form of neuro-diversity, with ASD2 & 3 being its aggravated forms.
Organizations like Autism Speaks align with position #1.
Radical autistics tend to align with view #2.
I subscribe to view #3. It is commonly held by ASD1s, especially those of us with ASD2/3 children.
