Vaccines & Autism, Another Perspective...

I take an adjusted view of vaccines and their role in Millennial autism [ASD2/3s].1

In 1928, Alexander Fleming discovered how to utilize the mold Penicillin as an antibiotic. It was a boon to internal medicine, but if you gave it to my mother, she would die. My mother's reaction to it doesn't mean that it is bad --indeed, it has helped more people than it has harmed-- it just means that it is contraindicated for her. Other antibiotics were later formulated that she can tolerate. (One of my sons is allergic to a different family of antibiotics.)

At one time, thimerosal was considered to be a comparable contaminant (in vaccines), but it has since been ruled out.

Benign autistics (as a group) and the intellectually gifted both exhibit an increase in sensitivities, allergies and asthma (a.k.a. immune dysregulation). One theory that I subscribe to2 is that autistics are not injured NTs. ASD2/3s are injured ASD1s. That is, a born ASD1 has been exposed to an allergen that an NT's immune system would successfully repel, and suffered an aggravated trauma because of it.

Just like antibiotics aren't bad just because some people are allergic to them, vaccines aren't particularly bad either. But just like my mother and son, they can be dangerous on a case-by-case basis.

One pharmaceutical company has found a component in some newer vaccines that can provoke such an allergic reaction,3 and they are trying to develop more hypo-allergenic versions (which we are waiting for).

(We still receive as many vaccines as are available without that allergen.)

1From downloadable report at Autism Society-San Francisco Bay Area, "about 1.2% of all male births (2008 birth year sample) in California now result in DDS autism." According to the article, "DDS autism" only includes cases of aggravated autism, not the benign variety.

2The aggravated-autism scenario (though not this particular injury) has been proposed by one Dr. Martha Herbert.

3Where SCPI has the terms NT & regressive autism [original article has been replaced], substitute benign & aggravated autism, respectively, to see what I mean.

Restated for clarity, fetal-based vaccines, namely [in the USA],

  • rubella [whooping cough] (after 1979) &
  • varicella [chickenpox]
do not CAUSE autism.
They frequently worsen autism for people who are born with an otherwise benign form of it [ASD1].
